Supporting end-to-end procurement projects at an exciting time of change, you will be instrumental to improving commercial outcomes across the health sector.

The Department of Health deals with issues that matter to everyone - from funding social care, to preventing pandemics. At a time when England’s health and care sector faces its greatest challenge, we aim to deliver the world’s most compassionate and highest quality service based on individuals’ needs, not their ability to pay. Costing some £120bn per annum, healthcare is probably the largest single public sector internal market in England. What’s more, the NHS has set itself the challenge of £22bn efficiency savings by 2020/21, to close the gap between resources available and patients’ needs. Better commercial practice will be crucial to meeting the challenge. That’s where you come in.

All kinds of procurement projects will have an impact on our goals to become more commercial and efficient. As a Procurement Officer, you will be responsible for supporting their delivery - from beginning to end. Whether you are processing orders on our system, providing procurement advice to colleagues across the department, or contributing information to answer Parliamentary Questions, you will have a vital role to play in our success. Crucially, you will help us to develop procurement and category strategies - and you will work with colleagues to develop, manage and monitor benefits realisation, including commercial savings and greater sustainability outcomes.

To join us, you will need experience in the areas of sourcing and category management. Committed to achieving commercial outcomes and delivering value for money, you are also dedicated to complying with policies and regulations. The ability to learn quickly and enthusiasm to develop in a commercial role will be key to your success.
