Customer service and retailer needs are at the heart of the business………

Our client is a leading UK wholesaler of premium products across areas such as Food, Household Products and Personal Care.

They are focused on providing the independent retailer a just in time delivery service, and pride themselves on being most innovative in terms of new technology. Along with their sister companies, they offer customers a one stop solution to not only stock their stores but to also allow them to offer the tools to compete against on line retailers by offering services such as click and collect on multiple brands.

They are predicting steady growth and have a new management team in place whose aim is to deliver increased operational efficiencies.

They are going through an exciting period of growth and change, and are therefore looking for an experienced Buyer to join their team.

Main Duties:

  • Operational buying (selecting new products and reviewing the old)

  • Ensuring on time delivery

  • Negotiating the best terms with suppliers

  • Investigating why products are being delayed and expediting

  • Constantly updating the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system

  • Maintaining strong working relationships with existing suppliers while seeking new ones

  • Ensuring that internal targets and deadlines are met

  • Ensuring that procurement activity conforms to best practice principles

  • Maintaining schedules with suppliers to ensure the on time delivery of goods

  • Cost management (analysis, negotiation, targeting and reporting)

  • Helping to interpret reports and predicting future sales

  • Keeping accurate records

  • Participation of formal business reviews with key suppliers

  • Attendance at trade shows

  • Undertake training and development

  • Follow all company policies and procedures

  • Any other duties in line with your job role


  • Previous experience of using Navision is a MUST

  • Experience of buying, preferably in a similar industry such as health food, sports nutrition, personal care

  • Ideally CIPS qualified or a degree in business, retail or similar subject

  • Good commercial awareness

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Strong numeracy skills, including the ability to analyse data

  • Confident user of the Microsoft Office suite, in particular Excel

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Capability and resilience to work in a fast-paced environment and achieve targets

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work as part of a small team and on your own initiative

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekend

  • Able to travel to attend trade shows
