Major Subcontract Programme Manager
Would you like to play a key role managing major subcontractors for our Submarine Solutions business? We currently have vacancies for Major Subcontract Programme Managers at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Major Subcontract Programme Manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining an effective subcontract programme management capability. You will be ensuring a cost effective, “end to end” solution is delivered for complex subcontracts with individual values of £20M+ that meet the end customer’s requirements as well as the business objectives of BAE Systems Submarines.
This role will provide you with the chance to manage from “cradle to grave” subcontract activities for major submarine programmes of national importance, as well as liaising with key senior stakeholders.
Your main responsibilities as a Major Subcontract Programme Manager will involve:
Collaborating with Commercial, Engineering, Quality and Build Delivery to understand the customer’s requirement in order to define and then implement the major subcontract to understand the customer’s requirement in order to define and then implement the major subcontract strategy that fulfils those requirements
Aligning the subcontract strategy with the planning activities for the overall programme and executing all tendering activities in accordance with appropriate legislation and assessed workload
Ensuring individual procurement, supply chain, negotiation and make vs buy plans for each contract are in place
Overseeing/leading on all activities associated with the negotiation and placing of major subcontracts and managing the deliverables ensuring that the contract’s cost, schedule and performance boundaries are maintained; conducting regular internal Phase Review assessments of suppliers’ own sub-contract management and procurement plans
Acting as the key interface between the business and cross-sector suppliers and suppliers’ best practice programmes/teams thereby promoting continuous improvement and managing the resolution of performance issues with the contract
Your skills and qualifications:
Clear track record of having defined and implemented sizeable subcontract strategies in support of major programmes in UK-based or international businesses
Proven experience of leading and developing the functional capability within subcontract programme management and procurement teams
Proven track record of having successfully delivered innovative, robust, high performing subcontract solutions in a major programme environment
Demonstrable stakeholder management skills, with a clear ability to engage, constructively challenge and influence successful programme outcomes
Relevant industry recognised qualifications/ certification such as MCIPS or equivalent

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
