An interesting Generalist, Senior Buyer opportunity with a successful and fast growing company; with opportunities to guide strategy and really develop your buying career into a management role.

This is a Senior Buyer role that will get you involved in a variety of categories, implementing and delivering the businesses buying strategy. Spend is circa 2 million spend; but the company is growing quickly, so there are real opportunities moving forward. You will have Generalist and some Packaging category experience.

Description of Senior Buyer Role:

You will be a progressive Procurement and Supply Chain professional with a tenacious drive to innovate, add value and deliver best in class practices, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating and buying, taking in to account price, quality and timely delivery to ensure continuity of supply. There is a strong emphasis on supplier relationship management from implementing first-class sourcing strategies to establishing effective strategic relationships with suppliers to help successfully drive the business forward.

Main Duties of the Senior Buyer: 

  • Sourcing, negotiating and buying in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Ensuring continuous supplies and communicating any supply problems which may pose a risk or have an impact on business operations
  • Monitoring market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers
  • Researching and evaluating areas of opportunity and reducing costs where possible
  • Developing ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
  • Negotiating contracts, improving prices and terms of business with suppliers
  • Mentoring and coaching the Assistant Buyer to enhance their career and professional development
  • Staying current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of products
  • Building, maintaining and managing supplier relationships, ensuring good communications


Additional Responsibilities of the Senior Buyer: 

  • Maintaining standards in line with the requirements of the role and any policies currently in place
  • Undertaking such other duties and responsibilities as may be determined by a Director from time to time
  • Ensuring compliance with equal opportunities legislation and proactively challenging prejudice or discrimination
  • Adhering to the procedures relating to the proper use and care of equipment and purchases for which the role has responsibility

  • Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Analytical and numerically astute with strong proven problem-solving abilities
  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver
  • Commercially and financially aware
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven purchasing experience, preferably within a packaging or stationery environment
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
  • Computer literate
