An organisation with over 200 years of heritage and operating at the forefront of security & technology solutions is seeking a Category Manager to join the team in Basingstoke.  Responsible for spend of up to £20million, this role will be heading up all Strategic Procurement and Supplier Relationship Management within complex direct materials categories.

Initially, this role will be acting in support of the Senior Category Manager, but over time the successful applicant will become fully responsible for an assigned category within the portfolio.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Run new product, value engineering and feature development projects for direct materials and services
  • Negotiate pricing, cost reductions and identify future savings opportunities for assigned categories and suppliers
  • Work with the wider bid and project teams to understand the requirements of tender documents and incorporate costs and products and service descriptions into bid responses
  • Carry out supplier audits in conjunction with SQA team
  • Support the Senior Category Manager in defining the most appropriate commercial strategy to deliver specific procurement initiatives
  • Manage key suppliers to ensure maximum value is delivered

Skills & Experience

  • Graduate calibre
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Experience of managing complex supplier relationships
  • Adequate experience of contract negotiations and drafting of SLA’s
  • Strong communicative skills and an ability to operate and influence at all levels
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
