About the Foreign & Commonwealth Office

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) promotes the United Kingdom's interests overseas, supporting our citizens and businesses around the globe. The FCO has a worldwide network of embassies and consulates, employing over 14,000 people in nearly 270 diplomatic offices. We work with international organisations to promote UK interests and global security, including the EU, NATO, the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the Commonwealth.

The role of Senior Commercial Adviser

The FCO uses its Official Development Assistance (ODA) to support and deliver the government’s 2015 Aid Strategy. In 2015 a new £1.3 billion cross-government Prosperity Fund was announced. It aims to promote economic reform and development needed for growth in recipient countries, and to create opportunities for international business. Playing a vital role in the shaping, delivery and management of the programme and its approach to commercial engagement and successful delivery, you will lead a small team of commercial specialists, developing and building capability and instilling confidence across the commercial team and wider. You will lead on developing and implementing new systems and process to fulfil the full end to end procurement cycle for all Prosperity Fund commercial arrangements whilst aligning to the Government Standards. You will be a pivotal point of contact for senior leads and will build strong and positive relationships with other government departments, agencies and the supply base, providing advice, direction and assurance on all commercial issues within the Prosperity Fund portfolio, and driving forward continuous improvement across the department.

What we are looking for

Along with your MCIPS qualification or equivalent, you will have strong experience of at least two of the following: programme/project management, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and/or Stakeholder Management. You will also have extensive Commercial/Procurement experience in the public sector and/or complex commercial environment, as well as a solid understanding of procurement processes. A natural leader, you will be an excellent communicator.
