1st Executive are retained by a global FTSE100 Energy Company who are seeking Commodity Buyers across metalworks, transformer tanks and fabrications ahead of some upcoming project-driven initiatives. You will have a previous track record purchasing these solutions from sub-contractors and experience ideally working for major energy, engineering or utility based organisations.

Job Purpose:

Manages contract administration and activities related to the procurement of goods and services, including the management of supplier relationships. Develops and implements appropriate sourcing strategies for various commodities to support corporate and business unit objectives

As a Strategic Commodity Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing missions on a wide scope of commodities at country / cluster level

Size elements:

  • Responsible for the following list of commodities including diesel generators, storage facilities, multiple connectors, temporary structures, Metalwork, Transformer Tanks, large fabrications and Busbars.
  • Those commodities represent an external spend = 15 M$
  • A strategic buyer can manage a team of buyers in some cases

Network & Links:

  • Internal: all businesses of the sub-cluster / country using the commodities he/she is in charge of. Planning, Procurement & Supply Chain. Engineering. Project management
  • External: Suppliers for negotiation and partnership; administrative authorities and lawyers in case of claim or conflicts

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing and developing the sub-cluster / country supplier panel in line with global company sourcing strategy, and in a close relation with the key SRM dedicated to his/her commodities
  • Propose & implement cost reduction actions for his/her commodity portfolio
  • Negotiate price conditions (price, payment terms, Incoterms, warranty, logistic requirements) with suppliers
  • Support business unit decisions (factories & project offices) facing logistic, quality or price issues with the suppliers in his/her portfolio
  • Identify and develop new suppliers / materials / technologies in the sub-cluster / country
  • Collaborate with Engineering & SQA for supplier development
  • Continuous supplier market analysis
  • Negotiating agreements with suppliers (contractual conditions)
  • Providing analysis on market, new products, new comers, legal constraints, etc
  • Reporting his/her activity (especially savings) to management.
  • Define and deploy the site or country sourcing strategy per commodity in line with the company global commodities strategies defined by the SRM team
  • Continuous supplier market analysis
  • Close collaboration with engineering & quality to develop new suppliers
  • Initiate and deploy "design to sourcing" actions with engineering & strategic suppliers to reduce TCO

Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes in accordance with requirements. Report or resolve any non-conformances and process in a timely manner

Ensure safety work instructions are complied
Participate in the resolution of safety issues.
Initiate actions to improve health and safety where needed

  • Savings and other T&C are aligned with target (budget, EAS…)
  • Supplier panel management
  • Terms of payment evolution
  • Quality of the reporting
  • Team management if any

Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years' experience in sourcing (or purchasing) function
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Creative and tenacious
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Knowledge in mechanical industry/machining is desirable

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors' degree in business or engineering related subject
  • CIPS qualified
