This is a new job supporting a new IT organisation.  Based in our Maidenhead Corporate Offices and reporting to the Director, Regional Procurement based in Liverpool, the person appointed will be responsible for an annual global IT spend totalling more than £50M in capital and operational expenditure.

Enjoying close links with the VP, IT and the senior IT Leadership Team, the brief will focus on developing and implementing Sourcing Strategies for all IT spend (across both goods and services) including infrastructure, maintenance, software, licencing and hardware sub-categories across the entire Seqirus organisation. The emphasis will be on securing maximum value from the external spend, using this as a platform upon which to drive competitive advantage for the business.

To date, IT sourcing has been handled outside the Procurement organisation.  As well as forging strong relationships with key stakeholders, one of the critical challenges in the early stages will, therefore, be to gain a thorough understanding of the existing contractual and supplier landscape.  As the role evolves, the priority will be to introduce more robust, professional Procurement disciplines across the category, applying a range of metrics to deliver increased efficiency and improved supplier performance.

The IT model relies heavily on outsourcing (services, support and infrastructure provision, for example) and, as such, the job holder can expect to be involved in negotiating a range of ‘big ticket’ contracts, most of which will involve dealing with expert business development professionals from a range of global vendors.  S/he will need to be comfortable operating in this space, developing constructive, sustainable relationships with the individuals and organisations involved and being able to juggle the many, often complex, dimensions of these deals.

Agility is critical to Seqirus’ mission to alleviate suffering and our strategy to grow our business. Information Systems have a key role to play in enabling us to achieve these aims and, as such, our IT function enjoys a very high degree of visibility.  The Global Category Manager will need to be comfortable with this and the exposure the role provides to those at senior levels across the organisation.

Detailed accountabilities include:

Category Management - Strategy Development

  • Lead the development, management and implementation of comprehensive IT sourcing strategies on Global and/or Regional basis in alignment with the Seqirus Business & Procurement Strategy to deliver agreed saving targets and other value benefits that significantly impact Seqirus financial results.
  • Lead, develop and manage cross functional category councils with members often based at several regional locations
  • Develop supply strategies that deliver business requirements across assurance of supply, quality improvements, regulatory requirements, service, cost, reduction in lead-times and innovation
  • Drive optimisation of the Seqirus supply base within the categories of responsibility whilst providing Insights within the supplier landscape and Global market to help shape business decisions and influence the Seqirus sourcing category strategies
  • Ensure the resources, information and tools are in place for project execution throughout the category, providing project management and implementation support where required
  • Lead complex and business critical negotiations with key suppliers and create greater commercial awareness within the stakeholder community of the need for spend management.
  • Provide category reporting to Seqirus management for cost, quality and service improvements and risk mitigation strategies
  • Approve supplier additions, changes and deletions in consultation with the Category Council

Supplier Relationship Management – Customer of Choice

  • Develop appropriate relationships with critical suppliers to ensure cost effective sources and alternatives for relevant categories
  • Develop Continuous Improvement plans and Strategies for the supply base employing appropriate tools and techniques to reduce waste across the supply chain.
  • Lead Cross Functional Category Councils to ensure Seqirus and the Supply base are aligned both in the immediate term but also across a 5-year pipeline.

  • Create a 5-year plan for the Category that clearly identifies projects and initiatives that will drive on-going value

  • Implement appropriate contractual coverage and on-going management of contract obligations within the supplier base

Compliance with Seqirus Sourcing Policies and Procedures

  • Ensure that the Seqirus Sourcing templates and approval routes are followed in the development of the Category strategies to protect Seqirus’ interests and reputation in accordance with the Code of Responsible Business Practice
  • Ensure Seqirus sourcing is committed to conducting business with integrity, in accordance with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Implement Responsible Procurement principles with a particular focus on anti-bribery requirements
  • Support diversity, inclusion and sustainability in our interactions with the supply base
  • Adherence to Seqirus DOA (Delegation of Authority)

  • excellent communication skills, especially relating to facilitation, and to be able to articulate complex concepts to non-technical colleagues and stakeholders
  • to be comfortable with the fact that this is a new role for which there’s no blueprint; you’ll be responsible for developing the approach and importing professional Procurement disciplines across the category.  In this sense, you’ll need to be happy with autonomy, exercising discretion in decision-making and, of course, being able to back this up.
  • to be resilient, self-motivated and highly inquisitive, using your initiative to gaining a clear understanding of the key issues
  • strong pc skills, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and a working knowledge of SAP and eSourcing platforms
