The Procurement Operations Lead will take responsibility for developing, owning, championing, managing and implementing strategies and plans that continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Procurement Operations function. In addition, deploying best practice models through evaluation of internal and external practices, take ownership of relationships with stakeholders, internal and external to the Procurement function, and improving customer satisfaction. Establishing efficiencies and fit-for-purpose controls whilst ensuring core procurement policies, processes, systems and support services are relevant to business needs. Designing and implementing a Tactical Buying capability to support transactions up to £250k.. 

Procurement Operations Lead Key Accountabilities:

  • Establish a fit-for-purpose Procurement Operations function, developing and hiring the necessary talent and building an operational infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of the business

  • Plan and prioritise operational activities to meet business needs (e.g. peak periods) and deliver improved customer service, through robust methodologies, resource allocation, measured SLA’s and delivery to plan

  • Ensures Senior Management and Sourcing teams receive accurate and timely management information

  • Develops initiatives to increase efficiency and effectiveness and introduce leading edge practices across all areas of Procurement

  • Supports the Sourcing teams to deliver new Routes to Market (Buying channels), building in compliance and risk controls whilst making the buying process easier and quicker for the business. This to include the design and implementation of a Tactical Buying team that supports buying activities up to £250K – this will be initially piloted in the Technology Category

  • Builds partnerships with Sourcing teams and senior business stakeholders to evaluate feedback, operational MI, internal and external practices and continuously improve policy, process, systems and governance

  • Leads work-streams to deliver transformational change and pro-actively manages change across the Procurement function and works with other stakeholders to embed change successfully across the business

  • Presents regular updates to key stakeholders, attending all necessary stakeholder groups and forums to raise the profile of the Procurement function

  • Manages all aspects of Procurement governance, including ownership and updating of relevant policies and processes, ensuring all processes fit together end to end and meet SOX requirements

  • Partners with the Supplier Risk Management lead to facilitate the transition to new processes, procedures and systems

  • Oversees the responsibility for the Procurement Systems to ensure controls and governance are kept up to date and effectively communicated to Procurement and wider business teams

  • Ensures an effective education and communication programme is in place to drive compliance to policies and processes by colleagues across the business

  • Provides leadership and direction to the Procurement Operations team and develops skills and capabilities to create a team of professionals dedicated to Procurement improvement including promoting the use of best practice processes and tools to internal stakeholders

  • Coaches and develops others, drives a performance management culture, motivates and inspires the team to deliver against performance expectations

Essential Skills/Experience required:

  • Degree or equivalent; business qualifications or CIPS desirable

  • In depth commercial awareness and a strategic approach to procurement

  • Strong subject matter expertise and thought leadership in all aspects of Procurement Operations

  • Proficient at building stakeholder partnerships

  • Sound knowledge of relevant business issues and procurement needs and requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in the application of strategic sourcing and supplier and contract management

  • Ability to work within and lead a team

  • Capability to lead transformational change

  • Strong communication, presentation, influencing and interpersonal skills

  • Deep understanding of Procurement best practice
