At Surrey County Council, we understand that it’s a challenging time for local government. But it’s also a period of great opportunity. We’re ambitious about becoming a modern and effective council, focused on delivering services that help make our area a great place to live and work. Because it’s about time everyone had what they need to succeed. Which is why we’re going through a radical transformation programme. Now, we’re looking for experienced professionals to join our realigned leadership team. Not only is it a chance to be here at the start of our transformation – it’s also an opportunity to make us a more progressive council, and to create a lasting legacy.

As the Director of Procurement, you’ll be responsible for developing and implementing modern procurement strategies that support our 2030 vision. As part of this, you’ll design, develop, implement and review all procurement-related strategies, policies and procedures. That way, you’ll ensure we have the best procurement environment possible. As part of our realigned leadership team, you’ll lead all procurement policies, ensuring they’re legally compliant simple and support our priorities. In fact, it’ll be your role to manage the Procurement team, while providing professional expertise and direct assistance to the other directors.

With substantial experience of successfully leading procurement in a complex and dynamic organisation, you’ll come to us with a relevant degree. Alternatively, you have a related professional or management qualification at post-graduate level. Beyond that, you’re a strong communicator, able to effectively negotiate with major suppliers and stakeholders at all levels. You also know how to lead new ways of working to create a culture change, and have up-to-date professional procurement knowledge – including current UK and EU procurement legislation. Additionally, you have a thorough understanding of the changing role of local authorities, the issues facing local government and the wider economy, and how this impacts procurement service areas. That way, you can help us create the services that make Surrey a progressive county, and a great place to live and work for all. Because, it’s about time.

Don’t just talk about transformation, work in progress.
