This specialist role will appeal to a graduate qualified CIPS purchasing professional looking for career growth and an opportunity to make their mark within a significant specialist manufacturer. Our client is a c£80 million subsidiary of an international group and a specialist manufacturer of branded high quality products, operating from 2 sites and with c300 colleagues. It manufactures a market leading product range supplying international markets and it also has a broad supplier base which is in excess of 100. The supply line includes raw materials used in the manufacturing process, site services, energy, equipment and all of the consumable items required to ensure a continuous and effective operational performance. Many of the contracts are of significant value and the materials are sourced in global markets.
This key role reports to the CEO, is part of the senior leadership team and specialist in the sense that you will operate individually with responsibility for a spend value of c£45 million. You will interface significantly with your senior colleagues on-site including manufacturing and planning and as many of the products are raw material items, the role does entail elements of commodity trading as well as ensuring that best value and continuity of supply is maintained. You will need to be Graduate and CIPS qualified, on an upward trajectory in your career which has been built in large scale manufacturing environments and you will have had direct responsibility for raw materials supply. You will also have a very commercial focus and the trading mentality necessary to buy in these international markets. You must be comfortable working in a group subsidiary environment and be able to demonstrate evidence of real success in delivering value improvement and you will be given lots of autonomy to do this. You will have a sound knowledge of current and best purchasing practice including contract law, procurement ethics, UK import and export legislation, benchmarking methodology and you will relish the opportunity of working under your own steam and in a hands-on way as this role demands.
There will be occasional international travel and you will be expected to reside within the North West area and there is a relocation package available to assist with this if necessary. There is also a highly attractive benefits packaging which includes pension, healthcare and life insurance and the bonus is on a scale of up to 50% of salary.
