As Procurement Category Manager your primary focus will be on IT, but you will also be looking at Finance and Security Categories, along with other indirects/services.

You will be supporting the Head of Procurement in developing and delivering the overall procurement strategy and as Category Manager you will also be responsible for creating specific category plans for IT, Security and Finance which identifies cost savings and service improvement opportunities and will see these through to fruition.

Working in a challenging environment the Category Manager will ensure the Procurement Policy is adhered too as well as providing expert advice into the business. This is a critical role that has a direct impact on operations and Capex and Opex budgets, so you really will need strong stakeholder engagement and management capabilities.

Category Manager Responsibilities

  • Own the category planning cycle for IT, Finance and Security, to deliver in year and long term commercial targets aligned to the procurement and category strategies
  • Execute category management and delivery of financial benefit through strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Deliver world class category management that drives savings, value, quality, compliance, sustainability and risk mitigation by opening up the innovation in existing or new suppliers for the business to harness
  • Build effective supplier and business partner relationships across the business
  • Identify key suppliers and act upon SRM opportunities and run in a well governed and controlled manner (SRM strategy – framework, reporting, progress, awards)
  • To deliver all key performance metrics for the team, including spend under contract, spend with preferred suppliers and provide guidance and support for junior members of the team
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure budgetary targets are accurate
  • Continually evaluates and looks for areas of improvement in the way the department delivers the procurement service into the business
  • Develop a clear renewal pipeline that ensures contractual renewals are managed in a proactive manner

Category Manager Experience

  • Wide experience across IT, Finance and Security categories
  • Extensive market knowledge across these categories
  • Full tender life cycle management and experience of leading complex negotiations
  • Extensive experience of working across multiple IT disciplines, Hardware, Applications, SAAS, Telecoms, Managed Services and Professional Services
  • Experience of working with key IT suppliers such as e.g. IBM, Vodafone, SAP, Microsoft, Kyocera
  • Knowledge of category management processes and supplier relationship management tools and techniques
  • Experience of leading and developing own or core project teams
  • Change management experience is essential, with the ability to influence key business partners
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills are essential
  • Strong analytical and e-procurement skills are essential
  • Ideally some of your experience will have been derived in retail organisations
