The Whistable site employs c280 people and specialises in the design and manufacture of a diverse range of highly engineered connectors and interconnect products for a demanding customer base in the aerospace (AS9100), military and industrial sectors. With over 200k live items, including a high number of bespoke products, materials include titanium, aluminium, plastics, and rubber, as well as qualified component parts, sourced both internally and externally. This complex supply chain provides both the challenge and opportunity for an ambitious and talented procurement professional to develop a supply chain strategy, capable of supporting current 11% CAGR with a projected company turnover of £50m p.a. by 2020.
Reporting to the Operations Director, through a team of 4 Direct and indirect Buyers, you will assume responsibility for all aspects of day to day procurement activity on a c£21m p.a. spend, ensuring goods are purchased at optimum cost, delivered on time and to stringent quality standards. The role requires a practical, hands-on approach whilst conducting an in-depth analysis (in collaboration with the Supply Chain Analyst) and assessment of current systems and procedures, international and domestic purchasing contracts, in order to develop a competitive and varied supply market. By applying best practice tools and techniques to gain maximum strategic and tactical advantage you will analyse bids and negotiate robust supplier contracts in order to meet inventory goals and deliver exceptional OTIF results.
Educated to degree standard and ideally with CIPS qualifications, you must be able to demonstrate your understanding of strategic procurement, within a complex, international supply chain and the impact it has on customer service, whilst supporting the team with daily challenges. Your experience will have been gained in a fast moving, highly regulated engineering or manufacturing environment, e.g. aerospace, automotive, medical, where you have delivered significant efficiency and cost improvements. Your communication and negotiation skills will be combined with experience of process and systems improvement, and a commitment to leading and developing your team.
