Strategic Contract Manager
We are looking for three Strategic Contract Managers to join our Contract Management Centre of Excellence team. The three roles are brand new roles and we are looking for the right candidates to shape and develop this new team within Royal Mail’s established Procurement function. The right candidates will ensure maximum value is obtained from all allocated third-party supply contracts through rigorous in-life contract management.
The primary goal of the Procurement team at Royal Mail is to deliver first class value for the business and protect it from risk, in support of the overall Royal Mail vision to be recognised as the best delivery company in the UK and across Europe. Royal Mail’s supply chain consists of around 5,000 suppliers. With an annual spend in excess of £2.25bn it plays a vital role in achieving our vision.
About the role
As a Strategic Contract Manager, you will quickly establish effective relationships with key stakeholders within the business, the Procurement function and externally with suppliers. You will also work closely with category managers and business units to identify and agree in-life contract management strategies for all suppliers / contracts in your portfolio.
You will be driving supplier and business unit relationships to ensure maximum contract value is delivered. Your experience in a similar role will assist you in delivering significant tangible savings to the bottom line (£2m+ per Strategic Contract Manager per annum) and work towards and develop a pipeline of activity to deliver £6m per annum (team target).
You will have the ability to be creative and innovative and to design and drive your own delivery plan and be accountable for your own personal development.
It is essential that you have extensive experience (ideally a minimum of five years) in a strategic procurement function, preferably in a large organisation. Significant procurement and/or contract management experience and detailed knowledge of procurement, contracts and supplier management processes is key to the role.
You will be qualified to Degree/MBA level and be a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply or equivalent.
You will be a self-motivated, objective and focused commercial leader who is comfortable with ambiguity, which will be reinforced by your strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. As an experienced commercial negotiator and influencer, you will have a strong understanding of finance and contract law.
You will have excellent analytical skills and be innovative in problem solving. With proficiency in your use and knowledge of Microsoft tools, you will also have strong communication and presentation skills.
