The primary purpose of this role is to manage the Company’s raw material spend for the Connectivity business.

Our client is one of the largest cable manufacturers in the world, employing over 20000 people and with over 100 years worth of experience.

Specific duties will include but not limited to the following:

  • Lead and own all key supplier relationships for the Connectivity business, build strong professional relationships to ensure that compliance, honesty and trust is developed and maintained at all times.
  • Identify innovative opportunities from the market to enhance our product offering, working in collaboration with the Engineering department.
  • With Engineering, mitigate any risk in the supply chain by identifying single source materials and approving new sources of supply through established or new suppliers.
  • Raise purchase orders and negotiate contracts on behalf of the Company for the supply of requisitioned or specified materials and goods, ensuring accurate SAP records are maintained.
  • Provide monthly reporting to Purchasing Manager and undertake analysis of adverse price variations by focussing on product cost drivers and cost reduction opportunities.
  • With Engineering (Design to Cost projects), new and established suppliers challenge design and manufacturing methods with a view to reducing out total cost of ownership, without detriment to quality.
  • Strategically maintain competition amongst suppliers through communication, negotiation, competitive tendering through ethical means.
  • Provide statistical purchasing data as required to the Central Purchasing Function.
  • Manage and report on supplier On Time Delivery and Right First-Time performance data, highlighting supply risk analysis and actions plans to improve performance.
  • Support to the Purchasing Manager as required including preparation of Management plan in line with Company procedures and Central Purchasing guidelines.
  • Where applicable, work with Global Commodity Leaders to identify opportunities and align with Group strategies.
  • Identify and assess commercial advantages to be gained from low cost manufacturing countries.
  • Take ownership of all day to day commercial issues with suppliers resolving appropriately using personal judgement and initiative.
  • On an ongoing basis, review departmental processes and procedures and make recommendations to improve.
  • Be prepared to challenge working practices in terms of the role remit and contribute towards continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have extensive experience in a manufacturing purchasing role working alongside Engineering, Design and Logistics
  • Be educated to Degree level, in a technical or engineering discipline and / or hold or be working towards achieving their MCIPS qualification.
  • Have a positive attitude to continuous improvement
  • Have a flexible approach to meeting deadlines
  • Be able to demonstrate a sound level of commercial acumen and excellent analytical skills.
  • Have an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office and experience of SAP will be essential.
  • Be proactive by nature and have highly persuasive interpersonal skills enabling lasting and influential relationships to be built.Tenacity and the drive to succeed in a commercial environment are additional qualities required in this role.

The jobholder will be required to undertake regular travel as part of their role to other Group sites and suppliers in the UK.
