The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) work is vital to the UK, it includes safeguarding the natural environment, supporting the UK’s world-leading food and farming industries, sustaining a thriving rural economy and leading the engineering of the nation’s defences against natural threats and hazards. Join Defra and you will be part of a department that is responsible for the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe.
We are offering three commercial roles in our flagship Future Farming & Countryside Programme, an exciting initiative responsible for delivering a brighter future for the agricultural industry following the UK’s exit from the EU.
We have a unique opportunity to reform how the Government, landowners and farmers work together to deliver public money for public goods. It also provides an excellent opportunity for MCIPS qualified candidates, or those with equivalent experience, to grow their commercial expertise working on an innovative policy area. Developing commercial aspects of policy and the new operating model, these roles offer an interesting combination of procurement, contract, commercial policy and strategy work.
As Common Agricultural Policy & Transition Lead you will navigate the existing contract landscape, working closely with the business and stakeholders to maintain deliverability and value for money through transition.
As Future Operating Model & Systems Lead you will impact on all areas of the programme. You will need IT outsourcing experience, along with an appreciation of innovative delivery mechanisms and the ability to work with delivery partners to deliver successful solutions.
As Environmental Land Management Lead you will lead a large multi-disciplinary team implementing the public money for public goods policy. You will need the ability to plan for high-value procurements and work with senior leaders to influence key policy and delivery decisions.
For all three of these roles, we are looking for an inspirational leader who is MCIPS qualified or has the equivalent experience. The successful candidate will also need experience of leading complex Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) procurements and of delivering procurement strategies within the public sector. In addition, you must have experience of writing Commercial Cases using HMT’s Five Case Model.
Everyone in Defra is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You will have access to learning and development from quality providers and support from mentors and coaches. We offer flexible working (including job shares and part-time working) alongside a range of other policies and schemes to support your physical and emotional wellbeing. Our comprehensive benefits offer includes generous annual leave, a contributory pension, staff bonuses and recognition, volunteering days, childcare vouchers and other salary sacrifice options, and an employee discount scheme.
