Commercial (income) Contract Managers at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)

Three new and exciting opportunities for high-level commercial experts at based at either our Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Lab (RAL) site in Oxfordshire or our Head Office at Polaris House, Swindon.

The organisation

The STFC is one of Europe’s largest science research organisations. Through world-class facilities and people, we’re driving ground-breaking advances in multiple scientific disciplines.  A Laboratory has existed on the Rutherford Appleton Lab site since 1957 which now undertakes pioneering work in areas such as particle physics, scientific computing, laser development, space research, and technology addressing some of the important challenges facing society. The lab employs around 1200 staff with scientist and engineers, from both the university research community and industrial research base, using our facilities.

STFC is part of UKRI, a non-departmental public body, bringing together the functions of the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK, and Research England and seeks to maximise value from government’s investment in research and innovation of over £6bn per annum.

UKRI Commercial Function

The function provides a wide range of commercial support to the whole organisation with a high proportion of effort focussed on the management of procurement and a smaller, more specialist group, providing expert support to the income-generating groups, particularly, but not only, at the STFC.

The Role

We are currently recruiting commercial professionals into the UKRI income-generating support section of the commercial function. The roles will report to our new Senior Commercial Contract Partner who, working with our Commercial Director, will lead the development and management of this commercial team. Technology department work with major multinationals through to SMEs. The roles will be incredibly interesting and challenging.

These roles will maintain a strong operational responsibility to the senior management teams for which support is provided – particularly, but not only, at STFC.

The role will be responsible to:

  • Provide assurance to senior teams that commercial arrangements are effective whilst managing risk and adhering to policy
  • Input to the development of the commercial team’s pre-sales, bidding, contract negotiation and fulfilment activities
