 Purchasing Manager (Retail Equipment & Services)

Current Location: based in Germany

€50,000 - €60,000 Basic plus Benefits

Role will include some travel

Working within the equipment team as the commercial lead in your market, you will maximise value and performance from suppliers and service agents and contribute to success and profitability. You will develop a consistent approach to performance management across a range of suppliers and contracts with the aim of reducing cost and improving service levels.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

-          Drive tangible improvements in value and performance from equipment suppliers and service agents

-          Work to understand business drivers and implement tactical and strategic activities to address needs

-          Implement purchasing processes for supplier and contract management.

-          Ensure focus on value, performance, accountability and continuous improvement

-          Agree and implement management information for identifying and targeting value, performance and product improvements

-          Analyse spend identifying opportunities to buy more efficiently, with a clear focus on cost of ownership, quality and service.

-          Extend the coverage and reach of equipment support by identifying and implementing new service providers, creating choice and additional value.

-          Work across the team to evaluate synergies, and collaborate regionally (or globally) on opportunities to leverage scale

-          Support the development and delivery of purchasing projects, securing stakeholder buy-in, defining critical path and providing clear feedback and progress updates

-          Work with Supply Chain colleagues to develop and make available tools and resources for equipment support

-          Continuously monitor and evaluate wider supplier, category and market trends for best practice and commercial advantage

Your Profile


-          Graduate calibre

-          Purchasing experience gained within a professional environment, ideally retail, leisure, distribution or food industries

-          Good understanding and appreciation of professional procurement with a focus on supplier relationship management

-          Exposure to setting up and managing service contracts and agreements and leading, directing and managing contract performance programmes

-          Strong organisational and time management skills; able to prioritise effectively and meet demanding deadlines

-          Previous experience of analysing and using data to drive supplier facing projects

-          Proven track record of working cross functionally to deliver improvement projects on-time and within budget

-          Experience of negotiating and managing complex, long-term service contracts


-          Takes time to understand business and retailer goals, needs and concerns; pulls together and gains buy-in for strategies that deliver added value. Able to influence and drive behaviour changes from suppliers and other stakeholders

-          Able to collate, evaluate, manipulate and draw conclusions from data

-          Understands business strategies and those of suppliers to ensure robust partnerships and plans are in place; monitors performance on an on-going basis

-          Hands-on approach with the ability to think laterally to resolve issues/problems; works proactively, pragmatically and independently. Operates effectively within a flexible, fast paced, small business team environment.
